Tachymeter

The new Tachymeter
RRP £ 239.-

The tachymeter scale and the colored highlights in orange would also be a real eye-catcher in the cockpit of a sports car. Two of the three totalizers can be used to stop the time in minutes and hours; the highlight second hand in orange enables second-accurate measurement.

The distinctive look of the Tachymeter is inspired by the world-famous Swiss Furkapass. The brushed 316 stainless steel case and matte anthracite dial are reminiscent of the region’s steep rock faces. Located at an altitude of 2,429 meters, this road pass in the Swiss Alps is considered extremely difficult to navigate and demands everything
from even experienced drivers.

Does a glance at the masculine timepiece on your wrist give you the confidence you need?

Point Connect

The Smart Strap
for classic watches
Launch 2022

See “Point Connect” under Link “Watch collection”.

Pointtec is always good for a surprise. This also applies to the company’s entry into the world of smart watches. But simply assemble an ordinary new-generation Smartwatch using existing components and technologies, put your logo on it and you’re done. Instead, the company has spent several years developing it itself.

The result of these efforts is not a watch, but a smart bracelet that replaces the bracelet of classic watches and is connected to the smartphone via an app. All watch cases with bar widths of 0.79 and 0.87 inches can be combined with the bracelet. So you can continue to wear your usual watch while the smart functions run on the bracelet, which is equipped with a curved OLED touch display with scratch-resistant glass.

This and the software are Pointtec’s own developments, which were realized with partners from the large-scale industry. “The biggest challenge in developing the Smart Wristband was clearly the display.

With a curved OLED display behind mineral glass, it is a world first,” emphasizes Werner Untch, product designer and Head of Design & Communication at Pointtec. “We worked on every challenge until it was mastered,” explains Mister Untch.

Lauch 2022, it should have an RRP of less than 280 pounds. The target audience has been defined as lovers of classic watches who also find the functionality of modern wearables attractive, allowing them to combine both worlds.

The battery has a running time of up to one week and is built into the clasp. The user is provided with an extensive range of functions, including messaging, activity tracking, health monitoring through the built-in heart rate sensor, weather, NFC payment, Bluetooth, navigation and vibration alarm. The “POINTCONNECT” app will be available for smartphones with iOs and Android operating systems.

Swiss Movements

Do you know a difference between ETA and SELLITA?

For many years, SELLITA operated as one of ETA’s major out-sourced assembly operations for their 2824 movements. They would receive 2824 movement kits from ETA and assortments from Nivarox directly (now part of the Swatch Group) and simply add wheels and screws and sell the movements to many famous Swiss watch brands as ETA 2824-2 movements, which in effect they were.

When it was announced that ETA would no longer be providing unfinished movement kits, this threatened SELLITA’s survival as a business. Their solution was to buy the parts from suppliers outside the Swatch Group with the exception of Nivarox who, as a result of the long-standing relationship over 50 years, they continued to use.

At first, they weren’t sure if they would have IP issues if they copied the movement exactly, so they re-engineered the movement, changing some minor details These changes, although minor, added up to reduced reliability in the pre-series movements and so,

SELLITA decided (having now learned that there were no remaining patents for the 2824) to return almost entirely to the ETA movement design. We started to use SELLITA’s SW200 (the name for SELLITA’s 2824-2) at this point and, having checked the performance of each subsequent delivery of both movements, we are able to confirm the movement performance exactly matches the ETA.
